Nassimi Moxie PVC Coated Polyester Fabric

Two and a half times the abrasion rating of the woven Nassimi fabrics, and a surface you can genuinely wipe down. This is the one for the seat that gets abused.

Moxie is a different class of material from the woven Nassimi polyesters. It is a PVC-coated fabric — a 100% phthalate-free PVC surface over a 100% polyester substrate — which means spills sit on top of it instead of soaking in. Wet swimsuits, dog paws, spilled coffee, sunscreen: you wipe it and move on.

The numbers back it up. 250,000+ double rubs against the 100,000 of the woven lines. Cold crack tested to −20 °F, which matters if the van sits outside through a real winter. And 25,000+ flex cycles, which is the spec that predicts whether a seat crease will eventually split.

Where this fabric belongs in a van — and where it does not

• Choose Moxie if the seat has to survive wet, dirty, outdoor life — a dinette by the door, a bench that doubles as a boot bench, anything a dog uses.
• Choose a woven Nassimi (Bleecker, Minetta, Varick) if you want the softer hand and more breathable surface of a textile.
• Choose Marathon Tweed for wall panels — a 32 oz coated fabric is heavy and expensive for a wall.
• Note the environmental profile below if your build has to meet a specification.

How it is sold

Screens lie about color. Monitor calibration, ambient light and camera processing all shift what you see, and dye lots vary slightly batch to batch. Order a physical sample before committing to a whole van — it costs a few dollars and saves a repeat order.

Working with it

Coated fabrics do not forgive needle holes. Every stitch is a permanent perforation in a waterproof surface, so plan your seam placement to keep stitching off the flat of the seat where water would sit, and use a leather or coated-fabric needle so you are cutting a clean hole rather than tearing one.

It is also stiffer than a woven. Warm it before working tight corners — a cold coated fabric in a cold shop will crease rather than curve.

• Use a needle designed for coated fabric or leather; standard needles tear the coating.
• Keep seams off the flat of the seat where water pools.
• Warm the material before working tight corners, especially in winter.
• Follow the Nassimi cleaning guide. Bleach is tolerated at 10% dilution; solvents are not.
• Do not fold it and store it under weight — coated fabrics crease permanently.

Questions we get asked about this part

How does 250,000 double rubs compare to normal upholstery?

Contract furniture is typically specified at 30,000 double rubs and heavy-duty commercial at 100,000. Moxie is rated at more than double the heavy-duty commercial figure. In a van it will outlast the foam underneath it.

How much do I need?

Measure each panel, add 3–4 inches on every side for wrapping and stapling, lay the shapes out on a 54" wide strip on paper, and count the linear yards. Then add ten percent. Every upholsterer we know has run out on the last panel at least once, and dye lots do not match perfectly between orders.

Does the PVC surface get hot or sticky in summer?

A coated surface does hold heat more than a woven one in direct sun through a window. It is the classic trade for wipe-clean performance. If your seating sits under a big south-facing window and you live somewhere hot, a woven Nassimi may be the more comfortable choice.

What does “cold crack −20 °F” mean in practice?

It is the temperature down to which the coating is tested to remain flexible rather than becoming brittle and cracking when flexed. For a van that sits outside through a northern winter, it is the single most relevant number on the spec sheet.
