RAM ProMaster Van Conversion Parts
The ProMaster wins on two numbers that matter more than the internet gives it credit for: it's front-wheel drive with a low, flat floor, and its box is wide enough to sleep east-west without cutting flares into the body. For a lot of builders — especially anyone doing a first conversion on a budget — that's a better starting point than a Sprinter. This collection is the ProMaster-specific side of our catalog for 2014+ vans in 136", 159" and 159" EXT high roof (and low roof, with notes): pre-cut 3M Thinsulate kits, CNC-cut 2tec2 and Lonseal flooring, MobiFrame swivels for driver and passenger, Unaka Standard and Premium roof racks plus the ProMaster Side Mount Ladder V2, Webasto gasoline heater kits with a ProMaster fuel tank tap, NW Conversions wheel-well water tanks shaped for the ProMaster's housings, and GoCode window trim rings. Everything below is fitment-checked, because ProMaster owners get burned by "fits most vans" parts more than anyone.
How to Choose ProMaster Parts
1. Confirm wheelbase and roof height before anything else
The catalog splits on 136", 159" and 159" EXT, and on high vs. low roof:
- Insulation: the 3M Thinsulate kit is cut for 2014+ High Roof ProMasters in 136", 159" and 159" EXT ($299–$668.12). It's compatible with low-roof 136" and 159" vans, but you'll be cutting pieces down.
- Roof racks: Standard 136" ($1,150), Standard 159" ($1,200), Standard 159" EXT ($1,250), Premium 136" ($2,000), Premium 159" ($2,150), Premium 159" EXT ($2,250).
- Flooring: pre-cut 2tec2/Lonseal for 2014+ ProMaster ($1,540.16–$1,684.54).
2. Use the ProMaster's width — it's the platform's superpower
A ProMaster's interior width lets most people sleep crosswise without exterior flares or an extended pod. That single fact reshapes the floor plan: your bed can go across the back at whatever height you want, and the entire remaining length becomes galley, garage, and living space. Design around it before you commit to a layout copied from a Sprinter build.
3. Insulation matters more here, not less
The ProMaster's flat, upright walls and large panel areas mean big uninterrupted surfaces of bare steel, and its factory ribs create deep cavities. Pre-cut Thinsulate covers the cargo area ceiling, walls and open door cavities (not the cab, not the floor, not fully-enclosed cavities), and ships with a placement diagram. Allow 1–2 weeks before shipping — it's made to order. Then handle the floor separately: rigid foam and a plywood subfloor before the finish floor. Full detail in van insulation.
4. Heaters: the ProMaster has the easiest fuel tap of the three vans
ProMasters have an auxiliary fuel port under the cab floor entry, which makes heater installs relatively painless.
- Webasto 2 kW gasoline kit (90-3-0027, $1,870.45) — Air Top 2000 STC, 3,070–7,000 BTU, up to 22 hours per gallon, 60mm ducting, Smartemp 3.0 BT controller. Our pick for most 136" and 159" builds.
- Webasto 4 kW gasoline kit (90-3-0019, $2,598.26) — Air Top EVO 40, 5,800–11,942 BTU, up to 16 hours per gallon, 90mm ducting. For 159" EXT, glassy builds, or real cold.
- Both include our custom 10-7-0010 ProMaster/Sprinter tank tap kit — a push-lock fitting that clicks onto the unused factory auxiliary port, plus an adapter elbow and clamps — and a genuine Webasto noise suppression package (muffler, intake silencer, extra stainless exhaust tube, hangers and clips).
- Espar AS3 full kits are designed for 2014+ ProMaster among other vans; the included hoses attach to the factory port with clamps.
See heaters for ducting rules — particularly the one about never using a closeable louver on a single-outlet system.
5. Water tanks that respect the ProMaster's wheel wells
NW Conversions makes ProMaster-specific 28-gallon wheel-well tanks in left, right and centered offsets ($296.10). The offset versions contour over the ProMaster's wheel housing rather than sitting as a universal box on your floor, which keeps water weight low and preserves usable floor. Choose the side opposite your galley to balance the van. Also available: 10 and 20 gallon galley tanks for fresh or grey. All are USA-rotomolded from BPA-free, food-grade plastic with flexible port options.
Note the ProMaster wheel-well tanks are also usable in Transit and Sprinter builds needing a same-side fit, with the caveat that insulation gaps vary because wheel well sizes differ.
6. Roof and access
Unaka racks are 8020-based, so crossbar position is adjustable around your fan, A/C and solar. ProMaster-specific hardware includes the roof rack bracket set ($42) and 8020 adapter brackets ($40); ProMaster crossbars are $95. Up top, the accessories are shared across platforms: deck panels, solar bars, High Bar kits and the acrylic wind fairing (the fairing has a ProMaster-specific variant). For access, the ProMaster Side Mount Ladder V2 ($800) has aggressive-grip step face plates and Easy Mount holes in the rungs for gear. There's also a ProMaster Surf Pole ($400) if you're hauling boards.
7. Windows, trim and the cockpit
GoCode makes ProMaster window trim rings — 3310 awning ($127.50), custom rear half-slider ($106.25), and a bunk window trim ring with storage cubbies ($169.15+) — which finish a window install cleanly and add usable pockets. On the cockpit side, TERRA X's dash mount line is Sprinter- and Transit-specific; ProMaster owners generally build around RAM® ball mounts and track hardware. The Pawssenger Seat ($249.99) does have a ProMaster fitment, confirmed on 2017–2019, 2021 and 2023 model years.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the ProMaster Thinsulate kit fit a low-roof van? It's cut for 2014+ high-roof ProMasters in 136", 159" and 159" EXT, and it is compatible with low-roof 136" and 159" models — you'll just need to cut the pieces down to fit. As with all these kits, it covers the cargo area ceiling, walls and open door cavities only, not the cab or the floor.
Which Webasto heater kit is right for a 159" ProMaster? The 2 kW Air Top 2000 STC kit (90-3-0027) handles a well-insulated 136" or 159" comfortably and gets up to 22 hours per gallon of fuel. Step up to the 4 kW EVO 40 kit (90-3-0019) for a 159" EXT, a build with lots of glass, or genuinely cold winter use. Oversizing causes short cycling, which is noisy and hard on the burner.
Are ProMaster swivel seats different from Sprinter or Transit swivels? Yes — the base geometry is chassis specific. MobiFrame makes 2014+ RAM ProMaster driver and passenger swivels ($469.99 each) with a 180° rotating system, tested to ECE and FMVSS requirements for M1 and N1 vehicles. They fit most factory and aftermarket seats designed for the 2014+ ProMaster.
Can I sleep sideways in a ProMaster without adding flares? That's the platform's best argument. The ProMaster's interior width accommodates a crosswise bed for most people without exterior flares or a sleeping pod — which is exactly the problem Sprinter builders solve with Innie Pocket Sleepers or flare kits. Measure your own height against your specific van before you commit to the layout.
What roof rack should I buy for a ProMaster? Standard racks ($1,150–$1,250 by wheelbase) give you adjustable 8020 crossbars and a simple install. Premium racks ($2,000–$2,250) add more mounting positions and accessory compatibility. Either way, decide where your fan, air conditioner and solar are going first — the High Bar kit exists so you can deck over a rooftop A/C instead of working around it.
Is the ProMaster a worse platform than a Sprinter? Different, not worse. ProMaster gives you front-wheel drive, a lower flat floor, a wider box, and a much lower purchase and service cost. Sprinter gives you AWD availability, a stronger dealer network for diesel service, and a bigger aftermarket. In our shop, a ProMaster with good insulation, a proper heater and a well-built power system is a better van than a poorly-built Sprinter every single time.
