Van Swivel Seats & Seat Swivels

Van Swivel Seats & Seat Bases

Swiveling the cab seats is the cheapest square footage you will ever buy. Two seats turned around convert a driving cockpit into a lounge, a dinette, or an office, and in a 144" Sprinter that's the difference between a van you can live in and a van you can only sleep in. We stock MobiFrame swivel bases — a European manufacturer whose swivels are tested to ECE and FMVSS requirements for M1 and N1 vehicles — for the 2007–2018 Sprinter (906), 2019+ Sprinter (907), 2015+ Ford Transit, and 2014+ RAM ProMaster, driver and passenger side, all with a 180° rotating system. Alongside them we carry MobiFrame's seating line: the Taxi Clip Seat with a 3-point belt and ISOFIX with top tether, the Comfort and Adventure Seats, and the SAF42/43 Seat Bed for builds that need a rear bench that becomes a bed. Fitment on swivels is unforgiving, so read the notes below before you order.

How to Choose a Swivel Seat Base

1. Buy for your exact chassis generation and side

Swivel plates are not universal. A 906 Sprinter base will not fit a 907, and driver and passenger bases are different parts. Our fitments:

  • Mercedes Sprinter 906 (2007–2018) — driver and passenger
  • Mercedes Sprinter 907 (2019+) — driver and passenger
  • Ford Transit (2015+) — driver and passenger, Gen 1 and Gen 2
  • RAM ProMaster (2014+) — driver and passenger

2. Sprinter owners: check for a factory swivel first

This is the one that costs people money. MobiFrame swivels for Sprinters are not compatible with any seat base that already has a factory Mercedes swivel installed. If your van came with the factory swivel option, keep it and change the seat instead. Confirm before you order — pull the seat trim and look.

3. Transit owners: Gen 1 vs. Gen 2 is a height decision

Both generations do the same job, but they aren't the same part:

  • Gen 2 — more ergonomic release handle, a larger wiring pass-through, and an offset pivot point that gives better clearance when rotating past the B-pillar.
  • Gen 1 — about 0.5" thinner overall.

That half inch is the real trade-off. In a Transit where you're already tight on headroom or the seat sits high, the thinner Gen 1 can be the better seat position even with the older handle. Availability varies by generation, so check the dropdown.

4. Measure your rotation path before you commit to a floor plan

A swivel base is the easy part; the interference is what stops the seat. Before you finalize cabinets, physically check:

  • Handbrake / parking brake lever — the classic Sprinter blocker. Many builders rotate with the brake down.
  • Center console and armrests — armrests often have to fold or come off.
  • Door sill and B-pillar — the seat needs to clear on the way around, not just at 180°.
  • Seat height gain — every swivel adds stack height. Check your sightline over the wheel and your headroom with the seat raised.
  • Wiring — powered and heated seats have harnesses that must pass through the swivel and tolerate 180° of rotation without pulling. The wiring pass-through is one reason Gen 2 exists.

5. Sequence the install with your floor

Do swivels before the finished top floor goes down if the base bolts through the floor pan, and route seat wiring while panels are still off. Retrofitting a swivel after cabinets are built is the kind of job that turns a two-hour install into a Saturday.

6. Rear seating: belts and child seats are a different standard

If you need legal rear passenger seating, you need a seat engineered for it, not a bench with a lap belt bolted to plywood. The MobiFrame Taxi Clip Seat includes a 3-point safety belt, ISOFIX anchors with a top tether point on the rear lower frame, a quick-lock base, and an adjustable backrest, and is safety tested to FMVSS, CMVSS and ECE requirements. It mounts to MobiFrame's composite floor with integrated aluminum tracks, or to their aluminum rail system. The standard Taxi Seat includes a swivel; the Folding Taxi Seat does not, but folds flat forward. For sleep-capable rear seating, the SAF42/43 Seat Bed is the heavy hitter.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will a swivel seat work with my factory Sprinter seat? Yes — MobiFrame swivels fit most factory and aftermarket seats designed for the corresponding chassis. The exception is a seat base that already has a factory Mercedes swivel installed; those are not compatible, and the right move there is to keep the factory swivel and change the seat.

Do I lose headroom or a comfortable driving position? You gain stack height, which is the honest trade. On most builds it's a small change and drivers adapt in a day; if you're tall, sit in the van and measure before you buy. The Transit Gen 1 base being ~0.5" thinner than Gen 2 exists precisely because that half inch matters to some people.

Are these swivels crash tested? MobiFrame swivels are tested according to ECE and FMVSS requirements for M1 and N1 vehicles, and test reports are available on the product pages. Follow the supplied torque specs and use the correct hardware — a certified part installed with the wrong bolts is not a certified installation.

Can I swivel with my seat belts still usable? Cab seat belts on these vans are anchored to the B-pillar and body, not to the swivel base, so belt function is unchanged when the seat is forward-facing. Seats are not meant to be occupied while rotated and moving. If you need belted seating for passengers in the rear, use a seat designed for it, like the Taxi Clip Seat with its 3-point belt and ISOFIX anchors.

What about the parking brake on a Sprinter? This is the most common physical interference on 906 and 907 Sprinters. Most owners rotate with the parking brake released and the seat slid back. Test the full path with the seat in every fore-aft position before you build a cabinet next to it.

Can I travel with a dog in the passenger seat instead? That's a different product and we carry it: the Pawssenger Seat is a platform that buckles onto the passenger seat to hold a dog bed (fits a 36" x 27" bed), with a carrying handle, rubber grip strips, and two stabilizing straps. Fitments confirmed on Sprinter T1N/NCV3/VS30 model years, ProMaster, and Transit. The passenger seat has to be slid fully back for it to fit, and we recommend a harness strap looped around the seatbelt or headrest.
