Nineteen ounces per yard — the heaviest woven polyester in the Nassimi range we stock, for seating that has to feel substantial.

Weight is what separates Minetta from the rest of the line. At 19 oz per yard it has real body, which shows up in two ways on a finished cushion: the surface reads as substantial rather than thin, and it resists the pillowing and creasing that lighter fabrics develop between the seams after a season.

It carries the same 100,000 double rub abrasion rating as the lighter Nassimi polyesters and the same contract flammability approvals, so the extra weight costs you nothing in performance — only in drape.

Where this fabric belongs in a van — and where it does not

  • Choose Minetta if your cushions are flat or gently shaped and you want a substantial hand.
  • Choose Bleecker if your cushions are heavily bolstered or curved — at 13/14 oz it drapes better.
  • Choose Varick if you want visible linen texture.
  • Choose Moxie if the surface needs to wipe clean rather than be washed.
  • Not a wall fabric. Use Marathon Tweed for panels.

What you receive

  • Nassimi Minetta fabric cut to the number of linear yards ordered, 54" wide

Working with it

A 19 oz fabric behaves differently under a sewing machine than a 13 oz one. Use a heavier needle and a longer stitch length than you would for garment work, and test on an offcut before you commit to a cushion panel.

The extra body also means it holds a crease. Do not fold it and leave it under a pile of plywood for three weeks before you cut it.

  • Heavier needle, longer stitch length. Test on an offcut.
  • Store rolled, not folded — heavy wovens hold creases.
  • Sew removable, zipped covers for anything that gets used daily.
  • Order the whole project’s yardage in one go for dye lot consistency.

Questions we get asked about this part

What is a double rub, and does 100,000 matter in a van?

A double rub is one back-and-forth cycle of the Wyzenbeek abrasion test (ASTM D4157). Contract furniture is generally specified at 30,000 and heavy-duty commercial at 100,000. A van dinette gets a fraction of the traffic of an airport lounge chair, so a 100,000 double rub rating is comfortably ahead of what your build will ever ask of it.

How much do I need?

Measure each panel, add 3–4 inches on every side for wrapping and stapling, lay the shapes out on a 54" wide strip on paper, and count the linear yards. Then add ten percent. Every upholsterer we know has run out on the last panel at least once, and dye lots do not match perfectly between orders.

Why can I only get some colors by the yard?

Only colors stocked in the warehouse are cut to the linear yard. Everything else in the Minetta range is available by the full roll. If you want a non-stock color, contact us and we will quote a roll.

Is 19 oz too heavy for a van?

No — the weight difference across a set of van cushions is a couple of pounds at most. Choose on hand and drape, not on payload.
