NW Conversions 10 Gallon Galley Water Tank (Fresh or Grey)
Reliable shipping
Flexible returns
Twelve inches square. The tank that fits where nothing else will — usually as the grey tank under a galley sink.
Ten gallons is not a lot of fresh water, and that is fine, because most people buy this tank as the grey side of a system. Under a sink, a 12" square footprint fits between the cabinet stiles where a bigger tank simply cannot go, and 10 gallons of grey is about right for a week of dishes.
It works as a fresh tank too, particularly in a small camper, a truck bed build, or a weekend van where you would rather carry less water and keep the payload.
Should you buy this tank, or a different one in the range?
- Buy the 10 gallon galley tank if you need a grey tank under a sink, or a compact fresh tank for a small build.
- Buy the 20 gallon galley tank if you have a 16" square bay and want double the volume.
- Pair it with a wheel-well tank — big tank fresh, small tank grey is the most common layout we build.

These tanks are not pressure vessels. They must be vented to atmosphere — a sealed tank will balloon on a hot day and collapse inward when the pump draws it down.

Installing it: what actually happens
As a grey tank this wants to sit below the sink drain so gravity does the work. Check that you actually have the fall — a sink at 36" and a tank inlet at 30" leaves six inches of drop across a run that may be two feet long, and a p-trap eats some of that.
Give it a vent and give it a clean-out. Grey water in a sealed, unrinsable box is how vans start smelling.
- Confirm you have gravity fall from the sink drain to the tank inlet.
- Vent the top port — a grey tank that cannot breathe will burp back up the sink.
- Plan a clean-out or a removable lid so it can be rinsed.
- Strap it in; 95 lb full still moves.
Questions we get asked about this part
Does the tank need a vent?
Yes. It is designed to run unpressurized. Run a vent line from the top 1.5" port up above the maximum fill level and out through the floor or a body vent. Skip it and the tank will deform on a hot day, then pull its walls in when the pump runs.
How much weight am I adding to the van?
Water weighs roughly 8.34 lb per gallon, so 10 gallons is about 83 lb of payload once full, on top of the dry weight of the tank. Put that number in your build budget before you order rather than after — it is the most commonly forgotten figure in a van conversion.
Is 10 gallons enough for grey water?
For two people washing dishes and brushing teeth, roughly five to seven days. If you shower inside it fills in two. Size the grey tank to match how you actually use water, not how you plan to.
Can I drink out of it?
The vessel itself is BPA-free food-grade polyethylene, so the tank is potable-rated. What actually determines whether your water is safe to drink is everything downstream of it: the fill port, the hose, the pump and the filtration. We plumb potable systems with NSF-61 rated hose and a carbon block at the tap.
