NW Conversions 24 Gallon Ford Transit Wheel Well Water Tank - Left (TR-L-24)
Reliable shipping
Flexible returns
Cut for the Ford Transit wheel arch specifically — not a Sprinter tank sold as “also fits Transit”.
Transit wheel wells are a different shape and a different height from a Sprinter’s. A Sprinter-profile tank will go in a Transit, but it leaves a gap at the top of the arch that you then have to pack out. The TR-L-24 is contoured for the Transit arch on the driver side, so it sits down where it belongs.
Twenty-four gallons in a 44.5" package that weighs 22 lb empty. It is the tank we fit most often in Transit builds where the galley is on the passenger side.
Should you buy this tank, or a different one in the range?
- Buy the TR-L-24 if you have a Ford Transit and the tank goes on the driver side.
- Buy the TR-R-24 for the passenger-side mirror image.
- Buy the TR-C-24 if you want a centered tank that straddles the hump instead.
- Look at the Transit undercarriage tanks if you want the water out of the living space entirely.

These tanks are not pressure vessels. They must be vented to atmosphere — a sealed tank will balloon on a hot day and collapse inward when the pump draws it down.

Installing it: what actually happens
On a Transit the factory floor has pronounced ribs. Do not bolt a tank cradle straight to the rib peaks — build a plywood pan that spans them so the load spreads, then anchor the pan.
Bench-drill your ports. Take the 1/2" open-end port as the pump draw so you empty the tank properly.
- Plywood pan spanning the floor ribs, then anchor the pan.
- Check the port diagram in the images against your pump position before ordering.
- 2-1/8" hole saw for the spun-closed 1.5" ports, on the bench.
- Two straps over the top into the wall ribs.
Questions we get asked about this part
Do I have to drill the ports myself?
On the wheel-well tanks the 1/2" NPT ports arrive open and ready to thread. The 1.5" ports are spun closed at the factory so you only open the ones your plumbing actually uses. Open them with a hole saw on the bench, before the tank goes anywhere near the van, and vacuum the shavings out. Plastic chips inside a fresh water tank are a mistake you only make once.
Does the tank need a vent?
Yes. It is designed to run unpressurized. Run a vent line from the top 1.5" port up above the maximum fill level and out through the floor or a body vent. Skip it and the tank will deform on a hot day, then pull its walls in when the pump runs.
How much weight am I adding to the van?
Water weighs roughly 8.34 lb per gallon, so 24 gallons is about 200 lb of payload once full, on top of the dry weight of the tank. Put that number in your build budget before you order rather than after — it is the most commonly forgotten figure in a van conversion.
Why buy a Transit-specific tank when the Sprinter ones say they fit?
Because the arch profile differs. A Sprinter-cut tank in a Transit leaves a void at the top of the arch, which either becomes wasted space or has to be packed with foam. The Transit-cut tank sits down against the arch and gives you a flatter top surface to build on.
