A direct 14 × 14 inch drop-in for a Maxxair cutout, with a brushless motor, a blackout blind and an insect screen already built in.

Most roof fan upgrades mean a new hole in the roof. This one does not. The ProBreeze is dimensioned as a direct replacement for a 355 × 355 mm (14" × 14") Maxxair cutout, so if you already have a fan up there, this swaps into the same opening.

What you gain is a brushless DC motor — more efficient, longer-lived and maintenance-free compared with a brushed motor — ten speed levels in both directions, a smart auto temperature mode you can set and forget, and a package that already includes the pleated blackout blind and the removable insect mesh most fans make you buy separately.

Is this the right fan for your roof?

  • Buy it as a Maxxair replacement if you already have a 14" × 14" roof cutout and want a quieter, more efficient fan without cutting metal.
  • Buy it for a new build if you are cutting a standard 355 × 355 mm opening anyway — but read the roof rib note below.
  • Check your ceiling thickness against the 27–80 mm (1-1/16" to 3-1/8") range before ordering. This is the spec that catches out thick-insulation builds.
  • Choose the dome and interior color at checkout — garnish colors cannot be swapped between dome options.

Two things to know before you order. First, when you remove an old Maxxair the original flange or mounting rim may have distorted slightly from years of environmental exposure — in some cases the ProBreeze needs gentle adjustment or wiggling to seat into the existing cutout. Second, if you are installing on a new van or RV with roof ribs, plan on a roof gasket or vent adapter for a proper seal — and remember the adapter thickness counts toward the 27–80 mm ceiling thickness range.

Swapping a Maxxair for it: what actually happens

A straight swap is a two to three hour job, most of which is removing old sealant. Cut the old butyl or lap sealant, lift the old fan, and then spend proper time getting the roof surface genuinely clean and flat — every leak we have ever traced on a roof fan started as a lazy prep on the old sealant.

Expect the cutout not to be perfect. Years of sun and thermal cycling distort an old flange, and the ProBreeze may need gentle persuasion to seat. Do not force it and do not enlarge the hole until you have tried it in a few orientations.

  • Measure your finished ceiling thickness first. 27–80 mm is the range, and a roof adapter counts toward it.
  • Ribbed roof? Plan a roof gasket or vent adapter for the seal, and add its thickness to your ceiling measurement.
  • Budget most of the job for cleaning off old sealant properly.
  • Do a dry fit before you lay any sealant, and cycle the lid open and closed.
  • The fan draws 20 W plus 4 W for the LEDs — a modest circuit, but fuse it properly at the distribution panel.

Questions we get asked about this fan

Will it really drop into my Maxxair hole?

It is designed as a direct 14" × 14" (355 × 355 mm) replacement, and in most cases yes. The caveat the manufacturer gives, and we repeat because it is honest, is that an old flange can distort over years of exposure, so some units need gentle adjustment to seat snugly in an existing cutout.

How loud is it really?

Rated at ≤29 dB exhausting at speed 4 and ≤47 dB at speed 10. In practice, speeds 1–4 are comfortable to sleep through; speed 10 is a fan you notice, as any fan moving 3,000 m³/h would be.

What does the brushless motor actually get me?

Two things. It draws less current for the same airflow, which matters on a solar and battery system, and it has no brushes to wear out, so it is maintenance-free and lasts longer than a brushed motor. On a fan that may run every night for years, both are worth paying for.

Does it come with a blind and a screen?

Yes, both are integrated — a pleated blackout fabric blind and a removable insect mesh screen. No extra parts to buy.

Can I mix the dome color and the interior color?

No. Garnish colors are tied to the dome option. Choose the combination you want from the drop-down; they cannot be swapped after the fact.
