Cut for the ProMaster’s rear half-slider opening, at a 4.5-inch standard depth you can take down to whatever your walls actually finished at.

ProMaster walls are the most variable of the three big platforms, because the body ribs are deep and everybody packs them out differently. That is exactly why this ring ships at 4.5" — enough depth to cover a generous build-up, with the expectation that you will cut it back to suit.

The result is a single-piece collar around the glass instead of a mitred timber surround with four joints that will open up the first time the van gets cold.

Two ways to install it, and which one we use

ProMaster wall ribs are deep enough that a lot of builds end up with an air gap behind the panel at the window opening. If that is you, add a backing block behind the ring flange before you fix it — screwing a trim ring into a panel that is bridging a void gives you a soft, flexing edge that will crack the finish eventually.

Otherwise this is a straightforward job: measure, cut, dry-fit, fix.

  • Add a solid backing block behind the ring flange if the panel is bridging a rib void.
  • Measure at four points around the opening — ProMaster openings are rarely uniform.
  • Fine-tooth blade, test slice, then final cut.
  • Tape-fit before you glue.

Questions we get asked about this part

Can I shorten the ring?

Yes, and most builders do. The rings are supplied deep so you can trim them down to the exact wall thickness you have actually built. Cut them on a table saw with a fine-tooth blade or a track saw against a straight edge, take a test slice first, and measure your finished wall from the glass flange to the face of your panel before you cut anything.

Screwed or glued?

Both work and they give different results. Self-tapping screws from outside through the ring into the wall panel is the fast method and is fully reversible — good if the panel might come off again. Glued or through-bolted from behind hides all fasteners and is what we do on customer vans, but you need to clamp it while the adhesive cures and you only get one shot at the alignment.

Does the ring hold the window in?

No. The glass is bonded to the van body by your window installer or by the window kit. The trim ring is the interior finishing collar that spans the gap between the glass flange and your finished wall, hides the raw metal and the insulation, and protects the panel edge. It is trim, not structure.

Why does it say “custom” in the name?

Because it is cut specifically for the ProMaster rear half-slider opening rather than being a universal ring that gets forced to fit. The name is the manufacturer’s; the meaning is platform-specific.
