Camp pillows are one of two disappointing things: an inflatable that squeaks and slides off the mat at 3 am, or a foam block that takes up more space in a van than it deserves. The Stuffable Pillow avoids both by not containing anything.

You stuff a jacket, a hoodie, or whatever is at the bottom of your pack into it, and you get a pillow shaped and firmed to your own preference. The face is 100% recycled fleece, which is the part that makes it comfortable after a long day rather than merely functional. The included stuff sack packs the pillowcase itself away when you are not using it.

How comfortable it is depends entirely on what you stuff it with. A folded fleece or a soft jacket makes a good pillow; a hard-shell rain jacket with a zip in the wrong place does not.

Living with it in a van

The technique matters more than people expect. Fold the garment first, then insert it, rather than balling it up and pushing it in — a folded layer gives you an even pillow and a balled one gives you a lump with a zip in it.

Two lighter layers stuff better than one thick one. And keep zips and hoods toward the bottom of the case, away from your face.

Questions we get asked

Why do we stock blankets at a van parts shop?

Because we build vans and we know what actually gets used in them. A packable, wipe-clean, water-resistant blanket lives in a van in a way a cotton throw does not: it goes on the bed, over your knees at a trailhead, on the ground at a picnic table, and then packs back into a stuff sack instead of taking up half a cupboard.

Does it come with any filling?

No, and that is the point. You stuff it with clothing you are already carrying, which means it takes up almost no space in the van and weighs almost nothing.

Is the fleece face washable?

It is a fleece pillowcase, so yes — follow the care label. Cold, gentle, no fabric softener is the safe default for a recycled synthetic fleece.

How firm is it?

Exactly as firm as you make it. That is the main advantage over an inflatable, which is either rock hard or slowly deflating.
