Cross Bar Hardware Kit - 4 x 2-Hole Corner Brackets with Hardware

Four corner brackets and all the hardware — one kit, one cross bar, no separate fastener order.

Adding a cross bar to a rack is a four-bracket job: two at each end, one on each face of the joint, so the bar cannot rotate. Buy the brackets alone and you are back on the website ordering T-nuts and bolts; buy this kit and you are working.

The brackets are 2-hole corner brackets for 15 series extrusion, and the mounting hardware to attach them to 80/20-style extrusion is included.

What it is for

• Adding a cross bar to an existing 15 series roof rack.
• Any perpendicular 90° connection between two lengths of 15 series extrusion.
• Building out interior framing where a right-angle joint needs to resist rotation.

Compatibility

The 15 series is the 1.5 inch profile — the size almost every van roof rack and interior framing system is built from. If your extrusion measures 1.5 in across the face and takes a 5/16-18 fastener, this is your hardware.

Working with it

Use all four. Two brackets on the same face of a cross bar will hold it, but the bar can still rotate under an off-center load — which is exactly what happens the first time you strap a kayak to one side of it.

Bracket each end on opposing faces and the joint becomes rotationally fixed.

• Four brackets, opposing faces at each end. Do not use two.
• Load your T-nuts before capping or joining the rails.
• Square the cross bar to the rails before final torque — check the diagonals.
• Re-check torque after the first long drive.

Questions we get asked

How do I know if my extrusion is 15 series?

Measure across the flat face of the profile. A 15 series extrusion is 1.5 in wide (or a multiple — 1.5 × 3.0, and so on) and the T-slot takes a 5/16-18 fastener. If your rack came from Unaka, 80/20 Inc., or most van rack makers in North America, it is 15 series.

How many should I order?

Count your joints, then add 20%. Rack hardware is the cheapest thing in a build and the most annoying thing to run out of halfway through a Saturday. We have never once regretted having spare T-nuts in the drawer.

How many kits do I need?

One per cross bar. Count the cross bars in your plan and order that many, plus consider a spare — most people add a cross bar they had not planned once the rack is up and they can see the space.
